Join Scott Latham on our Mountain Gorilla photography holiday located in the heart of Bwindi and Kibale in the ‘Pearl of Africa’ – Uganda.
This trekking holiday allows you to enjoy the world most amazing wildlife experiences. Trekking chimpanzee troops in Kibale and critically endangered Mountain Gorillas in the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Both national parks also offer 100’s of more primates and fantastic tropical birdlife species.
The jungle landscapes are home to the highest density of primates in all of Africa. As well as the chimps and gorilla, l’Hoest’s, black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, and blue monkeys, can all be found in the jungles. Smaller nocturnal species such as the bushbaby and potto can be spotted around dusk and into the night. Uganda is also one of the last remaining habitats of the endangered golden monkey.
The majority of this primate tour in Uganda will be trekking through Jungle habitat. The walks are fairly steady, but can be long. However, the trek will be taken at the slowest group members pace to ensure a comfortable walk.
There are so many ‘once in a lifetimes’ during this nature photography tour.
Please note: Dates are yet to be confirmed and booking is closed during this period. To join the waiting list please complete the enquiry form. The price is set to rise to £4999 due to price hikes in country as of December 2019.
Day 0 You will take a late flight from the UK arriving in Uganda the next day.
Day 1 You will be welcomed by your photography tour leader at Entebbe airport, where we will transfer to our overnight accommodation near Kampala.
Day 2 After breakfast, we transfer, via road, to Kibale Forest National Park through Uganda’s western highlands. Marvel at breathtaking landscapes that sit in the shadows of Africa’s third highest mountain – Rwenzori.
Day 3 After an early breakfast, we drive to a nearby briefing centre where you will be welcomed by the park rangers. After a short, yet, detailed brief on the do’s and don’ts of chimpanzee tracking before leading you into the forest for an awesome adventure. The trek lasts for an hour as we watching the troop feeding and socialising.
In the afternoon, we have the option to visit the nearby Bigodi Community. A region which is repeatedly featured on international media as the best community conservation model, including BBC travel programmes. A wetland sanctuary with more than 100 species of birds and primates including the red colobus, black-and-white colobus and other monkeys.
Day 4 After an early breakfast, we drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We will travel along the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and be welcomed by the Equator Line that separates the park from the neighbouring community.
After lunch, we will transfer to the nearby docking area for a once in a lifetime private boat cruise along the Kazinga channel for great wildlife views including elephants, crocodiles, hippos, buffalos and thousands of birds. This is a really fantastic experience which will fill your memory cards.
Day 5 After an early breakfast, we drive to Bwindi along the western Rift Valley and through Queen Elizabeth National Park and in to Ishasha. Home to the famous tree-climbing lions. We continue our journey to Ishasha river at the hippo pool where a packed lunch can be enjoyed as you watch the hippos. We continue our journey out of Ishasha and towards Bwindi.
Days 6&7 Breakfast will be rushed these two days as we start our Mountain Gorilla trekking. Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a truly awesome and emotional experience. This is no doubt the absolute highlight of a photography tour to Africa.
After a briefing by park authorities, you will embark on a forest trek lasting between one-five hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once we reach our family, we’ll have the humbling experience to stand meters from the gentle giants as they eat rest, play and bond with their young ones.
Day 8 After breakfast, we will transfer to Kihihi airstrip for a pre-arranged charter flight to Entebbe Airport. Upon arrival you will check-in for your homeward flights.
